Groundhog Day –

He DID see his shadow today!  (Isn’t he cute?)

And it’s just a “fun” holiday.  We’ve all seen the movie, “Groundhog Day” and it  was cute.  So what’s the history of this event?

Punxsutawney Phil is a groundhog resident of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, USA. On February 2, (Groundhog Day) of each year, the town of Punxsutawney celebrates the beloved groundhog with a festive atmosphere of music and food. During the ceremony, which begins well before the winter sunrise, Phil emerges from his temporary home on Gobbler’s Knob, located in a rural area about 2 mi (3.2 km) east of town.

I understand that some animal activists were pitching a fit this year indicating it is abusive.  How could that be?  He’s going to pop out of his hole is due time whether people are watching or now!  It’s just more fun when we ARE!

How could this be abuse?  Phil is a celebrity and he has put Punxsatawney on the map!   Of course, it’s just for fun and festivities because we all know that whether he sees his shadow or not, we’re still going to have six more weeks of winter!  So, people…please, just chill out and have a bit of fun!
